Definition of Prospect

One of the most frequently asked questions is "What makes me a prospect?" You are a prospective student-athlete for NCAA purposes if you are a student who has started classes for the ninth grade even if you do not participate in high school athletics.

You are a prospective student-athlete if you have not started classes for the ninth grade and an institution provides you (or your family and friends) any financial assistance or other benefits that the institution does not provide to prospective students.

You become a "recruited prospective student-athlete" at a particular college if any coach or representative of the college's athletics interest (booster or representative) approaches you (or any member of your family) about enrolling and participating in athletics at that college.

Activities that cause you to become a recruited prospective student-athlete:

Providing you with an official visit;

Placing more than one telephone call to you or any other member of your family; or

Visiting you or any other member of your family anywhere other than the college campus.

NOTE: No alumni, boosters or representatives of a college's athletics interest can be involved in your recruiting.

Clemson University

Clemson University is located on the shores of Lake Hartwell, which covers over 56,000 acres, and within view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Clemson offers several activities for students to participate in during their free time such as biking, camping, hiking and white-water rafting.

The university is located in the city of Clemson, which is one of the last college towns. Clemson is centered between several larger cities being no more than two hours east of Atlanta, GA, north of Columbia, SC, and west of Charlotte, NC.
