Won the Omaha Challenge, the team's offseason endurance and condition competition, among all players during the fall despite only winning only one of the seven individual events, which showed his consistency in the competition...he also won the Omaha Challenge among pitchers in the fall of 2004...played as a first-year freshman in 2005, then earned a medical red-shirt in 2006, as he recovered from an arm injury...his last name should sound familiar, as his distant relative Mark Fidrych pitched five seasons in the Major Leagues with the Detroit Tigers from 1976-80...outstanding student who has been on the ACC Academic Honor Roll during each of his first two seasons at Clemson.
Head Coach Jack Leggett on Fidrych: "Chris is a lefthanded pitcher who is coming off surgery. He is just getting his rhythm back along with his endurance and strength. He's feeling good about where he is right now. He's a tremendously hard worker and very intelligent on the mound. He'll give us some strong innings as lefthander. He's going to figure this out before it's all over, and he's going to make a contribution to the ballclub this season."

2005: Was 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA in 10 relief appearances (14.0 innings pitched)...had 13 strikeouts and did not allow a home run...held lefthanded batters to a .160 batting average...only allowed one of six inherited runners to score...pitched a scoreless ninth inning in his first career outing against #18 California-Irvine on Feb. 27...pitched a scoreless and hitless ninth inning against Virginia on Apr. 15...pitched 4.0 scoreless innings in relief against Western Carolina on Apr. 19; he allowed one hit and no walks while striking out four...pitched 1.1 scoreless and hitless innings in relief with three strikeouts at #6 Baylor in the Waco Super Regional on Jun. 12...played for Wilmington in the Coastal Plain League in the summer, where he was 0-2 with a 3.00 ERA in 6.0 innings pitched (four relief appearances)...won the Omaha Challenge competition among pitchers in the fall of 2004.
