Head Coach Jack Leggett on Martin: "Alex is a lefthander who is in his next-to-last year of eligibility, but he will graduate in May. He has always shown spurts of being able to help our team. He is a finesse-type pitcher who has great competitive skills and work ethic. He's going to get some quality innings this year."
Lefthander who has been a set-up and situational pitcher...has been effective when called to take the mound throughout his career as a Tiger...has a 2-0 record, 4.81 ERA, and .253 opponents' batting average in 23 career relief appearances (24.1 innings pitched)...has allowed just one home run in his career.
2007: Had a 6.00 ERA in nine relief appearances (6.0 innings pitched)...allowed just three hits (.150 opponents' batting average), all singles, with five strikeouts...held opponents to 1-for-11 (.091) with runners on base and 0-for-6 with two outs...held lefthanded batters to 0-for-7...did not allow any of his 11 inherited runners to score...had a 3.86 ERA in 2.1 innings pitched in games against top-25 ranked teams...had a 2.08 ERA and .071 opponents' batting average in April...allowed no hits and one run in 3.0 innings pitched over three relief appearances at home...pitched a scoreless inning in relief with a strikeout at Virginia Tech on Apr. 7...retired all five batters he faced in 1.2 innings pitched in relief with two strikeouts against #19 Georgia Tech on Apr. 28.
2006: Had a 2-0 record and 4.42 ERA in 14 relief appearances...in 18.1 innings pitched, he allowed 21 hits and eight walks with eight strikeouts...only allowed four of 14 inherited baserunners to score...held the leadoff batter to a .188 batting average...had a 2-0 record and 1.54 ERA in 11.2 innings pitched in March...pitched a perfect inning in relief with a strikeout in the second game of a doubleheader against Mercer on Feb. 26; it was his first career appearance...pitched a scoreless ninth inning against #25 Kansas on Mar. 10...earned his first career win against Elon on March 22; he pitched 3.1 scoreless innings in relief, allowing four hits and no walks...did not factor in the decision, but pitched 3.0 hitless and scoreless innings in relief with three strikeouts against #12 N.C. State on Mar. 24...earned the win in relief by pitching 4.0 innings, allowing two runs on three hits at #11 Miami (FL) on Mar. 31...pitched a scoreless and hitless inning in relief at Duke on May 9.
2005: Red-shirted...played for Florence in the Coastal Plain League in the summer, where he was 0-2 with a 5.13 ERA and a save in 26.1 innings pitched (14 relief appearances).
BEFORE CLEMSON: Lettered three times in baseball at Providence Senior High School, where he was coached by Danny Hignight.
PERSONAL: Two-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll...majoring in travel & tourism...born Alexander Miles Martin on Feb. 16, 1986 in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
