Head Coach Jack Leggett on Vaughn: "Matt is a righthander who has been in our program for three years and is one of our team captains. He has great leadership qualities with tremendous focus and concentration. He is a great competitor and is going to pitch a lot of innings. Whatever role we expect out of him, he's going to give us because he is that focused and unselfish."

2007: All-ACC Academic team member...had a 4-0 record, 2.75 ERA, and one save in 16 appearances (one start)...in 39.1 innings pitched, he allowed 41 hits (.268 opponents' batting average) and 14 walks with 37 strikeouts...allowed just one home run and threw one wild pitch; the one homer he allowed was to South Carolina's Justin Smoak, one of his best friends who lived in the same neighborhood as Vaughn as a youth...had a 3-0 record and 3.00 ERA in 18.0 innings pitched in ACC regular-season games...held righthanded batters to a .215 batting average...only allowed 22.9 percent of leadoff batters to reach base...threw 52 groundball outs compared to just 23 flyball outs...had a 3-0 record, 1.80 ERA, and .228 opponents' batting average in 25.0 innings pitched at home...had a 2-0 record, 1.50 ERA, and .164 opponents' batting average in day games...had an 0.68 ERA in 13.1 innings pitched in March...held opponents to a .200 batting average with runners in scoring position and two outs...held opponents to 0-for-7 with the bases loaded...allowed just one earned run in 11.0 innings pitched (0.82 ERA) after the seventh inning...pitched 2.0 innings in relief, allowing one hit and no runs with three strikeouts to record his first career save in the second game of a doubleheader against Pacific on Feb. 24...pitched 3.1 innings in relief, allowing one hit, no run, and no walks with six strikeouts against Memphis on Mar. 9...pitched 4.0 innings in relief, allowing two hits, no runs, and no walks with three strikeouts to earn his first career win against Duke on Mar. 18...pitched 5.0 innings in a starting role, allowing five hits, one earned run, and one walk with five strikeouts to earn the win against Gardner-Webb on Mar. 27...pitched 5.0 innings in relief, allowing seven hits and two runs to earn the win at Virginia Tech on Apr. 6...pitched 4.2 innings in relief, allowing three hits, one run, and one walk with three strikeouts at #4 South Carolina on Apr. 18...pitched 4.2 innings in relief, allowing two hits, no runs, and two walks with four strikeouts to earn the win in the second game of a doubleheader against Boston College on May 6...pitched a perfect inning in relief with a strikeout at #17 Mississippi State in the Starkville Super Regional on Jun. 8...played for Keene in the NECBL in the summer, where he had a 2-4 record and 4.02 ERA in seven appearances (six starts); in 40.1 innings pitched, he allowed 39 hits and six walks with 32 strikeouts.
2006: Had an 0-1 record and 10.12 ERA in 13 appearances (one start)...in 13.1 innings pitched, he allowed 22 hits and seven walks with 15 strikeouts...did not allow a stolen base...held opponents to a .250 batting average with two outs...held opponents to 2-for-11 (.182) with runners on base and two outs...was on the 25-man ACC Tournament roster, but he did not travel to Omaha with the team...pitched 2.0 scoreless innings in relief at College of Charleston on Mar. 3; he allowed no hits and no walks with three strikeouts while pitching near his hometown...pitched 2.0 perfect innings in relief with three strikeouts against Elon on March 22...pitched a scoreless inning with a strikeout against Maryland on Apr. 9...pitched a scoreless inning with two strikeouts in the second game of a doubleheader at Duke on May 8.
BEFORE CLEMSON: All-state selection and member of the state championship team as a sophomore at Summerville High School...lettered four times in baseball and four times in football at Summerville High, where he was coached by Burt Bazzle...standout quarterback at Summerville High School under legendary Head Coach John McKissick, the nation's winningest high school coach...one of the top-50 quarterbacks in the nation according to PrepStar...attended the same high school as Steven Jackson (2001-04), another tall righthander from Summerville who played at Clemson and wore #22.
