Bowl Participation: Reserve in 2001 Humanitarian Bowl against Louisiana Tech. Started in the 2002 Tangerine Bowl against Texas Tech.
Overview: First-Team Academic All-ACC in 2002...returning starter for 2003 at left tackle...came out of nowhere to have a solid year...was slated to be backup to Derrick Brantley, he did not take a snap in the Georgia game in the season opener...Brantley then suffered a torn ACL against Louisiana Tech and was lost for the season...that brought Henry to the forefront, as he played 797 snaps and had 11 starts for the season...had played just 42 snaps in three games the previous season...one of 12 players on the Tiger Tangerine bowl roster with degrees, he earned his degree in sociology in August of 2002...actually earned his degree in three and a half years...first Greenville High player to come to Clemson on a football scholarship since Don Kelley, an academic All-American in 1968...Henry was named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll for 2003, as he had over a 3.3 GPA for the year...has worked on improving his strength, as he can bench press 415 pounds (12th on the team) and has done 28 reps of 225 pounds, fifth best on the team.
In 2002: Actually led the offensive line in complete games; he played every snap in nine of the 13 games, including all 85 plays in the Tangerine Bowl...played every snap in eight of the last nine games...had 35 knockdown blocks, including a season-high seven in the win over Georgia Tech...that might have been his best game considering the competition, as he also graded 81 percent...also graded 83 percent in win over North Carolina...had his high grade of the year against Louisiana Tech when he had an 89-percent grade...came off the bench in the middle of the game after Brantley’s injury and played 37 snaps...had an 82-percent grade in playing all 79 snaps against rival South Carolina...he was one of the offensive linemen who was paving the way for Yusef Kelly on Clemson’s final drive that lasted over six minutes and salted the game away for the Tigers...that certainly was a thrill for the native of Greenville.
In 2001: Lettered as a reserve tackle...listed as second-team behind Gary Byrd entering the season...played in three games for 42 snaps that year, including 16 snaps in the Humanitarian Bowl...also played against Duke and North Carolina.
In 2000: Played in two games, including 22 plays in the win over Missouri and two in the win at Duke.
In 1999: Red-shirted...gained valuable experience in practice as a guard and tackle...showed the size and speed to fit into Clemson’s system...named to Clemson’s Academic Honor Roll for the 1999-00 academic year.
In High School: Graded at 91 percent as a senior at Greenville High School...honorable mention All-American by Southeastern Recruiting Alliance...#19 player and #3 offensive line prospect in South Carolina by SuperPrep...an all-state pick by Associated Press and High School Sports Report as a senior...a top-30 player in the ACC region and #4 offensive line prospect by PrepStar...an all-county and all-conference pick as a senior...played most of his senior year as a 16-year old...played varsity football for three seasons and became a starter midway through his sophomore season...coached by Larry Frost at Greenville High...chose Clemson over Georgia Tech and South Carolina...born William Henry on 10-16-81, one day before Clemson beat Duke during its run to the 1981 national title...earned a degree in sociology in August of 2002; he is working on a masters degree in human resource development.
